Some additional FAQs, additions, and clarifications:

#6 Then who/what pays for the site and keeps it running?
First and foremost, the site is entirely FREE for all users. It costs you NOTHING to use the site. Second, the site is mostly funded by me, from the banner ads, and from selling Where's George? merchandise (see the George Store) Many users have also joined the OPTIONAL Friends of Where's George? program for some extra special benefits. I also invest a significant amount of my spare time each week.

Additional note: anyone running a pop-up blocker will not be able to use this site. This applies only to registered users who have not joined Friends of Where's George?.

#19 I just entered some bills, but they show up with three dashes in the middle.. Did they get entered/stored correctly?
Yes, they have been stored with the entire serial number. The serial numbers are slightly masked to prevent other people from seeing your bills and entering them, causing fake 'hits' to be generated.

In addition, any bill on the Top 10 list is masked even more (5 dashes) due to problems in the past with people faking hits on those bills.

Additional FAQs:

You may be experiencing problems with your browser (or your PC). I don't know if this is a solution, but it is a start. I suggest reading all the way through before attempting the following:

01) Try using another browser i.e. Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape, or Opera. At present Mozilla and Phoenix are reported to be unstable with Where's George. Previous versions of Apple Safari are known to not work with Where's George. There is nothing we can fix.

02) 'Log Off' from and 'Log On' to Where's George (WG).

03) 'Log Off' of WG, close all browser windows, open browser window and 'Log On' to WG.

04) 'Log Off' of WG, close all browser windows, close all applications, shut down PC for 30 seconds to clear RAM (actually time it for 30 seconds), turn PC back on, open browser window and 'Log On' to WG.

05) Is your temporary internet history file large? You may need to delete the history files. If you need assistance, please check your browser help for instructions.

06) 'Log Off' of WG, close all browser windows. Then delete Internet Cookies - for MS Internet Explorer - 'Tools / Internet Options / Delete Cookies [button]'. CAUTION: this will delete other website cookies and will reset you 'viewed' links. Open browser window and 'Log On' to WG.

07) Perhaps, your browser, proxy server, firewall, or some other software is blocking the cookies from the WG domain. In Internet Explorer/ Internet Options / Privacy tab - down the bottom under “Web Sites – To override cookie handling for individual Web sites, click the Edit button.”, verify that WG is not on the list.

08) Can you try to connect from another machine or network connection?

09) Nothing has changed at Where's George. Perhaps you have loaded new software patches or drivers. You could perform a system restore. Please utilize system help for instructions. For Windows XP Professional: 'Start/Help and Support/Fixing a problem/Using System Restore to undo changes'. CAUTION: if you restore your system, you may need to re-install some software patches or drivers.

10) Verify that your computer system date is correct. A previous user had their system date incorrectly set to the year 2018 and no login cookie functioned correctly. *smile*

Please let us know if you get it working and what the problem was via the 'response form' link in your original e-mail (keeps cases numbers together) or via the Contact Us Form (if you came to this page from the forums).

How to Create Your FOG State Map Image:

Please go to 'YOUR BILLS' and press the 'refresh' button (at the top of the page) to reflect more current data - up to and including yesterday.
Please go to 'YOUR BILLS/Hits by State' and press the 'refresh' button (at the top of the page) to reflect more current data - up to and including yesterday.
Please go to 'YOUR BILLS/Hits by State Map'.
Scroll to the bottom of the page.
Set the 'Cutoff' and 'State Color' values (HEX code).
Press the 'Get a hit map' button.

Move Your Map Information to Your Profile:
After the map image and legend have displayed,

Press the browser 'refresh' (or position the mouse anywhere in the window except over the map image and 'right click/refresh') to update your map image changes (move data from browser cache to WG Server URL storage location). (undocumented feature *wink*)
You can manually add the map image and legend to your profile.
The 'Map Image' code is now located in the window below the words: 'HTML code for your Hit Map Image (copy/paste from here):'.
The 'Legend' code is now located in the window below the words: 'HTML code for your Legend (copy/paste from here):'.
Or you can click on the "To add this map to your User Profile:" to automatically add the map image and legend to your profile. Each time you press this button, it will create an additional map image and legend. If you only want 1 map image and legend, you will have to manually edit your profile and remove the duplicate instances of the map images and legends.

When You Get a Hit in a New State:

Go to 'YOUR BILLS' and press the 'refresh' button (at the top of the page) to reflect more current data - up to and including yesterday.

Go to 'YOUR BILLS/Hits by State' and press the 'Hits by State Report' 'refresh' button (at the top of the page) to update your data.

Go to 'YOUR BILLS/Hits by State Map'.

Verify or reset your cutoff values and colors.

Press the 'Get a hit map' button (at the bottom of the page) to regenerate the current map image. If the changes are not reflected in the map image, then press the browser 'refresh' (or position the mouse anywhere in the window except over the map image and 'right click/refresh') (this is NOT the 'Hits by State Report' 'refresh' button) to reflect the changes (move data from browser cache to WG Server URL storage location).

Go to your profile and press the browser 'refresh' (or position the mouse anywhere in the window except over the map image and 'right click/refresh') on your profile page (move data from WG Server URL storage location to browser cache).

If you change your map legend, you will have to manually edit you profile to supply the new HTML code; or click the button "To add this map to your User Profile:" and remove the duplicate map images and legend from your profile.

If the image is incorrectly displayed, go back to step 3) and repeat.

Much of this was shamelessly ripped off of Hans M Guy's Help for new users site.
