I think we are saying the same thing.
I also believe it is an “initial” initialization situation. I don’t think I worded it correctly in my previous post. *smile* I would guess that each time a user goes to the Hits by County screen, the program tries to load from cache the previous selected cutoff values and colors. If no valid cutoff values are set (on the initial run), and the ‘get a hit map’ (or was it the “To add this map to your User Profile:” “click here” button) is pressed, then invalid cutoff values are sent to the profile, generating a black map.
Technically, if this were case, the program could check to see if it were the “initial” run, and chose default colors and cutoff values (Hank could set them) to pass to the profile. If Hank thinks it is a high enough priority (or gets many inquiries – as to why this keeps happening), he might change it. Otherwise, we will just point people to the help pages, and remind of the work around. *smile*
I didn’t chose invalid cutoff values on my initial run. Even if I did, my memory is kind of bad, so I probably would not remember my sequence of events. And like you, I have not seen the code, so I would only be guessing too.
If it happens again to someone else, we’ll have to remember to ask them, what sequence did they perform. Of course, we will supply them with the workaround to fix it. *smile*
Thanks for the replies. *smile*
Hans,
: With all the fields blanked the map bore no relationship to my previous map. I also get a different map if I insert all 0's. In that case the counties showup in the highest Cutoff #4 color. It seems more like an "initial" initializtion situation to me. Since we don't know anything about the software we will probably never know. If I ever open a new account (not likely to ever happen) I'll try to remember to give it a try.
:
: : The second time you enter the Hits by County screen, the program is pushing values from stored cache.
: : One would probalby have to try to replicate on a virgin (no county map) WG account.
: : It is just a guess.
: : HMG,
: : : : :
: : : : : No, you don't need to use the default color scheme first, but you DO have to put in your own cutoffs the first time, or else you'll get a black map.
: : : : : -Hank
: : :
: : : But then it doesn't take much to amuse me.
: : : It is just a "first time" problem. I just redid my map with blank Cutoff values. It wasn't black. Every county that I have a hit in came out in the "Less than 0" (i.e. the Less Than First Cutoff) color as I expected.
: : : Sorry, Hank. It's not that I did't believe you, it is just that I like to see things for myself. ;-)
