Personally I just don't see the point in the SPAM alerts.

1) I'd say 9 times out of 10 I can detect that something is spam just by looking at the subject (e.g. Make money fast; This really works; etc.) Under normal viewing circumstances, I would know enough to skip said posts.

2) For me, I view all posts to turn them green anyway so that I can quickly scan back through previous pages and see what I haven't read yet. So I'm going to click on it anyway. All the SPAM alert followups are just more things for me to have to click on.

3) Has anyone EVER seen a spam with less than 3 or 4 "alerts"? To me the spam alerts are far more annoying that the spam itself! It just draws more attention to the spam if anything and gives me more to click to turn it green.

4) Hank will get around to deleting the spam eventually, so why make his job harder by posting 4 or more alerts on every spam. Can't we just leave it alone and ignore it? It's going to show up folks--for people that don't want to waste their time reading it, most of the time they would know by the subject that it's spam and hopefully know by themselves not to read it.

So this post was not about spam, but rather an X-rated post. Okay, well maybe the rules are different for that. Maybe not. Like Spam, it will be deleted by Hank. A mail to Hank informing him that this is a more serious violation of the PF guidelines will hopefully get it removed more quickly. But why call attention to it by posting a followup? MOST of us here are adults and can choose to ignore the contents of the post after clicking on it and seeing what's inside. I know there are some children on the board that may follow these posts. Do you think that by putting some kind of an "alert" on the post that it will stop them from looking at it? Probably the opposite will happen!

To Jim in Camarillo: The Hurrican Electric banner you saw is the ISP that is hosting Where's George. That banner indicates Hank has already removed the offending post.

Okay, thanks for the floor. And if people still insist on being net.cops (a very serious breach of netiquette by the way), PLEASE only one spam alert per post (I know this will never work). And don't quote the entire SPAM message in your followup.
